Authorities of Nahuel Huapi National Park have reported the theft of a camera that was monitoring the huillín, a native otter species listed as endangered. They stated that the theft of the equipment not only signifies the loss of a working tool but also disrupts months of monitoring and data collection on one of the most threatened species in our ecosystems. The Browning camera, model Darks Full HD Trail Camera, was installed in the Brazo Blest sector of Lake Nahuel Huapi. It was located within a Strict Reserve area, 'where studies for the monitoring of the huillín are conducted and disembarkation and use by visitors are not permitted.' The park authorities warn of the severity of this crime, as it involved invading a protected area and resulted in the loss of months of research. Those who can provide information or wish to return the material can contact the Conservation Biology Area directly with biologist Carla Pozzi at cpozzi@apn.gob.ar or visit the Intendency at San Martín Avenue 24. The statement concluded by saying, 'The collaboration of the community is fundamental to protect the huillín and the fauna of the Park.'
