Judge Capuchetti on Judicial Challenges in Argentina

Buenos Aires, March 4 (NA) – Argentine magazine Newsweek, part of the Alpha Media group, launched its March edition with an exclusive interview with Federal Judge María Eugenia Capuchetti. For the first time, she spoke publicly about her work in the justice system and the challenges it faces in a context of high political and media exposure. Capuchetti, head of the Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 5, reflected in the publication on the role of judges in high-impact cases and the need to preserve judicial independence against external pressures. In this regard, she emphasized that judicial decisions must be based exclusively on evidence and the file, as the Argentine News Agency was able to find out. During the interview, the magistrate also referred to the functioning of the federal courts and the climate surrounding investigations involving public figures or events of great repercussion. In this context, she pointed out that the media exposure of certain cases can generate additional tensions in the daily work of judges. Capuchetti joined the federal court in 2018 after an extensive career within the Judicial Power, where she previously served as a judicial official and secretary in various courts. Since then, she has been involved in politically and judicially sensitive investigations. The March edition of Newsweek Argentina also includes a profile of the magistrate and a review of the current challenges facing the federal justice system, in a scenario marked by political polarization and constant public scrutiny of judicial decisions.
