Mendoza Kirchnerism Creates Own Front for Municipal Elections

The Mendoza Kirchnerism decided to play outside of the Justicialist Party and registered its own front for the February municipal elections. Both alliances are made up of Unidad Popular and the Federal Party. Emir Félix, president of the local Justicialist Party. The Justicialist Party, chaired by Emir Félix, also registered in all departments, although with different names depending on the municipality. Most are governed by Peronist mayors, which gives the result a key political weight. Although the lists are already defined, the PJ holds that the deadline to agree on candidacies within the fronts is still open, so the possibility of unity has not been completely ruled out. The February 22 elections will define the renewal of 50% of the deliberative councils in six municipalities that split their elections. Under the name “Manso Front”, the space aligned with Anabel Fernández Sagasti formalized its participation and opened an unprecedented scenario: the concrete possibility of a divided Peronism in the six departments that will go to the polls. The move deepened a tension that had been growing within the PJ and that, unlike in previous elections, this time it was reflected on the ballots. “Manso Front” will compete in Maipú, Rivadavia, Santa Rosa, La Paz and Luján de Cuyo, while in San Rafael the coalition will be called “Alianza San Rafael Futuro”.
