Senate Passes Budget Without Controversial Chapter

The Argentine Senate approved the 2026 budget bill without the controversial chapter on university and disability laws rejected by the lower house.

Senate Passes Budget Without Controversial Chapter

The Argentine Senate has passed the 2026 budget bill without including the chapter rejected by the Chamber of Deputies. The chapter, which was rejected by a vote of 123 to 117, also dealt with the Cold Zones Law, the elimination of updates to family allowances, energy-related debts, and tax revenue sharing for the district. The decision not to incorporate chapter XI is due to the ruling coalition not having the support of other political blocs. This means the Senate will debate the 2026 budget on December 26 without any modifications to the text voted on in the lower house, according to legislative sources. Previously, the Chamber of Deputies rejected the chapter.
