A man has been charged with setting fire to a home and killing its owner following a fight in the Neuquén province. It is expected that another suspect will attend his preliminary hearing today.
The case occurred on December 6th when Juan Aníbal Pino and the accused, identified as F.A.S., were involved in an altercation. The prosecutor in the case, Lucrecia Sola, charged them with simple homicide as co-perpetrators.
As a precautionary measure, it was requested that the accused remain in preventive detention for six months due to the risk of flight and obstruction of the investigation.
The judge who presided over the hearing, Raúl Aufranc, approved the charges and the request for preventive detention, though for a shorter period than requested: one month.
Regarding the man accused of assaulting Pino, he has also been detained, and it is expected that he will be charged in the coming hours.
According to the Provincial Public Prosecutor's Office, the accused, to hide the attack and despite the victim still being alive, started a fire in the bedroom and fled. Firefighters, who responded to the emergency call, managed to extinguish the flames and found Pino dead, according to the Argentine News Agency.
An investigation was immediately launched, and among the evidence collected are the testimonies of neighbors, as well as preliminary examinations carried out by firefighters and videos from security cameras.
Days later, the detention of F.A.S. was achieved, who was charged in the last hours and preventive detention was imposed on him.
