Argentina's Ministry Revokes License for 'AFA University'

The Ministry of Human Capital of Argentina has announced that the so-called 'University of the Argentine Football Association (UNAFA)' is not accredited as a higher education institution in the Argentine Republic. According to the statement, the Undersecretariat of University Policies has demanded that the AFA immediately cease all promotion or advertising related to the supposed institution of higher learning and its academic offerings. Ministerial Resolutions No. 206/1997 and 4600-E/2017, as well as Articles 39 and 68 of the Higher Education Law, prohibit unaccredited entities from issuing or advertising university degrees. Human Capital reaffirmed its commitment to 'the integrity and quality of the Argentine university system' and to the protection of students and families against unaccredited educational offers. Furthermore, the entity must submit a written statement within five business days. According to a document accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the Ministry detailed that the Argentine Football Association has been advertising undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the media, on social networks, and on a recently created website, without official recognition or ministerial authorization. In the second part of the communiqué, the ministry recalled that current regulations stipulate that the use of the word 'University' is strictly reserved for institutions created and authorized by the National State.
