What was supposed to be a formal ceremony to kick off a new period of the Deliberative Council in José C. Paz this Friday ended in a violent fight between Peronist militants and followers of La Libertad Avanza (LLA). The incident, which resulted in blows, insults, and chaos, exposed the tense political coexistence between the two forces in the district. According to the Argentine News Agency, the incidents began after the swearing-in of the libertarian councilor María Amoroso. 'One had his jaw fractured, another was cornered by men and beaten with sticks, men in their 50s in a gang beat a 16-year-old activist of ours, another was bathed in blood because they ganged up on him eight against one,' Amoroso recounted on social media. With no official response from the local government so far, the libertarians are demanding an investigation into what happened. The councilor held the municipality responsible for not guaranteeing the security of the event and filed a criminal complaint before going to a clinic to accompany the injured. 'They beat our LLA militants. Their celebrations, recorded in several videos that circulated on social media, generated an immediate reaction from the militancy linked to Mayor Mario Ishii. In a few minutes, the discussions turned into shoving, chair-throwing, and aggressions inside the venue, which then continued in the street. Amoroso reported that several of her militants were injured, including a young man with a fractured jaw and a minor who, according to her version, was also attacked. The day was intended to inaugurate the new legislative period, but ended up becoming another example of the strong polarization that the politics of that municipality is going through.
