The Republic of Argentina decided not to support the final document circulated during the G20 Leaders' Summit in Johannesburg. This diplomatic decision is based on two main reasons: the violation of the consensus rule governing the forum and substantial differences in the approach to the Middle East conflict. According to information from the Argentine News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regretted that the statement was approved "without the consensus of all members of the forum, including Argentina among others." For the country, preserving the consensus rule is fundamental to the legitimacy of the G20, whose main mandate is the global coordination of actions aimed at financial stability and economic growth. The second point of conflict was the geopolitical content of the document. Regarding the Middle East conflict, Argentina differed from the approach reflected in the document, which it considered "partial". According to the official stance, the text omitted the regional context and the underlying structural causes of the conflict, elements that Argentina considers indispensable for the advancement of a "genuine, sustainable and balanced" peace process.
