On Wednesday, Argentina voted in favor of the embargo that the United States maintains against Cuba since 1960, at the United Nations General Assembly. This diplomatic shift breaks with three decades of continuity in a stance against the North American country's blockade. For 33 years, the UN has been calling for an end to the embargo imposed by the U.S. on Cuba over 60 years ago. This position remained unchanged by any U.S. government during that period. On Wednesday, 165 countries approved the resolution to eliminate the restrictions, while it was rejected by the United States, Israel, Hungary, Ukraine, Paraguay, North Macedonia, and Argentina.
