The political climate in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires has become tense due to the elections, which has led the opposition to accelerate discussions in the Chamber of Deputies. Up to three different sessions are expected to be held: one to address issues related to Libra, another regarding pension matters, and a third linked to Disability. This is due to the fiscal costs associated with the latter topic and the frequent absence of deputies from governors in the discussion.
The opposition, made up of various blocs, is looking to define a strategy to tackle uncomfortable issues for the Government. Among these topics are the Libra scandal, improvements to the pension system, and the declaration of an emergency in Disability. There was even consideration of discussing these matters in a session close to the elections in an attempt to condition political sectors allied with the Government who might change their stance to avoid electoral costs.
Despite the existing political sensitivity due to the results of previous legislative discussions and the lack of support for natural allies from the ruling party, it has been decided not to rush the timing or mix all topics in one session. The session on May 14 is expected to proceed without the presence of the summoned ministers, leaving space for a possible opposition offensive the following week.
Although the opportunity to electorally affect the Government and its allies in the Buenos Aires elections may be lost, the opposition prefers not to take risks and to plan a more orderly strategy. They aim to avoid jeopardizing the quorum and focus the discussion on important issues without mixing them with current topics. This strategic approach is reminiscent of the modus operandi of "Grupo A" during Cristina Kirchner's presidency, demonstrating the importance of ensuring a quorum and a solid strategy to achieve effective results in legislative debate.
