The State Workers' Association (ATE) reported that, on average, the public sector has lost more than 40% in the purchasing power of its income. The general secretary of the organization, referring to this situation, criticized governors for sending their representatives to support decisions that negatively affect workers, observing that President Javier Milei only shakes their hands to manage poverty.
In light of this situation, ATE has called for a new national strike with demonstrations throughout the country for next Thursday, May 22. A joint plenary with UTEP will also be held to discuss issues such as the new agreement with the IMF, the conditions it imposes on Argentina, and the increasing external debt.
The union denounced that the bargaining process in the public sector has become a fraud and criticized the intention to merge state agencies not with the goal of saving, but of plundering. This arises after statements by the Minister of Deregulation, Federico Sturzenegger, regarding the intention to "use the chainsaw" in the ministry he leads.
ATE announced that it will promote the strike in rejection of the agreement with the IMF and the increase in external debt and called for a joint plenary with UTEP to discuss these issues in more depth. The call for mobilization and the active participation of workers in defense of their rights is one of the main slogans to avoid, according to the organization, the destruction of the areas of control and oversight that the State currently has.
