Debate on the Extension of the Pension Moratorium in Argentina

The national deputies' bloc of Unión por la Patria, with all its members, requested a special session to discuss the extension of the pension moratorium that expires on March 23 and will not be extended by the national government. The caucus led by Germán Martínez has proposed to open the chamber this Wednesday at 7 PM.

The agenda for the session includes projects from Unión por la Patria, as well as from the Left Front and Federal Innovation. Among the authors of the proposals are Nicolás del Caño (FIT), Brenda Vargas Matyi, Leopoldo Moreau, Pamela Caletti, and Luana Volnovich.

The pension moratorium allowed people of retirement age without the required years of contributions to regularize their situation to access benefits. With its expiration, the majority of older adults will face difficulties in retiring, having to rely on the Universal Pension for the Elderly starting at age 65, receiving 80% of the minimum pension without widow's pensions.

The PUAM implies an extension of the retirement age for women who do not meet the contribution requirements, with a lower benefit and subject to conditions of socioeconomic vulnerability. Since previously 90% accessed retirement through the moratorium, its elimination represents a deterioration in the conditions for women in that aspect.

The request for a special session has the signatures of several deputies, including Germán Martínez, Cecilia Moreau, Paula Penacca, Ricardo Herrera, Gisela Marziotta, Sergio Palazzo, among others.
