Detention of Lawyer Gustavo Morales Sparks Controversy

The Tucumán lawyer Gustavo Morales was arrested in connection with an alleged police sedition case in the province of Tucumán. During the opening of ordinary sessions of the provincial Legislature, Governor Osvaldo Jaldo supported the detention of Morales and others involved, asserting that an internal conflict within the police force was avoided, stating: "Thank God, we acted early and that didn't happen."

Morales, known for his allegations against local political figures, faces 30 days of preventive detention. He is accused of coordinating, through social media and WhatsApp groups, an alleged attempt at police insurrection. The prosecutor's office examined messages from the group "Police Salary 2024," where police officers discussed measures for better salaries. The governor expressed his support for the Judiciary, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Supreme Court for their actions in this case.

According to judicial reports, Morales allegedly led a group that spread media campaigns against the local government through platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and WhatsApp. Additionally, payments and transfers within the group for hiring a lawyer to represent the involved police officers were investigated.

The detention of Morales has generated criticism and concern. Sectors of the opposition and human rights organizations have expressed unease about the conditions in which he is held. His transfer to a high-security prison, as well as his communication restrictions and lack of contact with his family, have raised doubts about the respect for his procedural rights.

The case continues to generate repercussions and could reach national and international judicial levels if it is determined that the detention violated his constitutional guarantees. Amid these controversies, Jaldo emphasized the importance of swift intervention to prevent potential unrest within the police, highlighting the key role that preventive action has played in this case.
