Constitutional lawyer Andrés Gil Domínguez expressed his concern about the current situation in Argentina, claiming that the current government is jeopardizing the country's representative, republican, and federal democracy. Gil Domínguez warned that the current levels of violence remind him of dictatorial times and described the imposed model as autocratic with neofascist tendencies.
According to Gil Domínguez, the only way to counter this situation is through elections, where popular sovereignty can play a crucial role in halting this model. He criticized the inaction of Congress and the Judiciary, stating that citizen voting is the main tool to express rejection of this system.
The lawyer also questioned the governability by decree and the authorization of borrowing from the IMF, suggesting that these actions could be disregarded in the future. Furthermore, he warned that the ongoing model ignores fundamental principles such as the Constitution, the separation of powers, and democratic tolerance.
Regarding the recent incidents that occurred during a march by fans and retirees in Congress, Gil Domínguez rejected accusations of an attempted coup by the government, arguing that there was no such attempt. He also emphasized that the government would not be attacking the judiciary as a whole, but specifically those judges who limit its actions by applying the Constitution.
Finally, the lawyer mentioned that the Supreme Court has made questionable decisions, such as the irregular oath-taking of judges, and emphasized the importance of respecting obligations assumed under the rule of law, unless violations of essential norms such as the Constitution are demonstrated.
