The former Argentine president, Mauricio Macri, strongly condemned the use of violence and disorder to destabilize the democratic government. Macri expressed his sorrow for the serious injuries resulting from these irresponsible acts and assured that his party, the PRO, will not allow "thugs to occupy the place of the Republic."
Recalling a similar event that occurred in 2017 during his term, Macri described how his government was attacked in a violent demonstration aimed at destabilizing his administration. He stated that the mobilization yesterday in front of Congress had the primary goal of destabilizing the democratic government and creating strategic chaos.
Macri denounced that the incidents during the protest sought to create an image of rampant state violence against innocent citizens, with the intention of interrupting the democratic order. He emphasized that the protesters aimed to portray themselves as victims and justify anti-democratic actions.
The former president lamented that, during the march, barras bravas from different football teams mobilized with the purpose of destabilizing democracy. According to Macri, these groups sought to imbalance the forces by provoking the police to generate a reaction that would perpetuate the climate of disorder.
Amid the events, Mauricio Macri reaffirmed his commitment and that of his party to the defense of the law and Argentine institutions, emphasizing that they will not tolerate attempts to destabilize the democratic government.
