In a heated discussion at the Agreements Commission, Senator Martín Lousteau and Maximiliano Abad, both from the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR), exchanged harsh accusations. Lousteau reproached Abad for his hypocritical attitude in criticizing kirchnerism despite having been a minister in that government, and macrism despite having been an ambassador in the United States during his tenure.
The relationship between Lousteau and Abad fractured months ago when Lousteau decided to present his own list for the elections of the Buenos Aires Province Committee, which Abad chaired. This sudden decision broke the bond between them, and the situation worsened after Lousteau contested the election results, in which Miguel Fernández, supported by Abad, emerged victorious.
During the session in the Agreements Commission, Lousteau expressed his indignation at the attitude of his colleagues, noting that they arrived late and seemed to have been speculating to avoid the debate about the Constitution and the Court. Lousteau criticized Abad and other radicals for not acting consistently in defending constitutional principles, despite waving the legacy of iconic figures of radicalism like Yrigoyen.
In response, Abad defended his stance and accused Lousteau of disloyalty and inconsistency. The verbal exchange between the two politicians reflected the internal tension within the UCR at a crucial moment while the appointment of Manuel García Mansilla to the Supreme Court was being discussed.
