Deputy Maximiliano Ferraro reported that the Civic Coalition submitted a request for access to public information after journalist Carlos Pagni claimed that Laura Belén Arrieta, representative of the CPAC, entered the country with "many suitcases" without being subjected to customs control by order of President Javier Milei. Ferraro revealed that he had requested details about who authorized Arrieta's passage without control, which PSA and Customs agents were involved, information about the plane she traveled on, and video recordings of her entry into the country.
In an extensive message on social media titled "WHAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN LOOKED AT," Ferraro criticized the discretion in customs controls and deemed it unacceptable. He mentioned that it compromises the security and legality of foreign trade, in addition to showing an evident double standard. The deputy concluded that the situation presented was concerning.
Carlos Pagni, on his program on La Nación +, linked Laura Belén Arrieta with the CPAC and stated that customs authorities remained alert after a control was suspended by higher orders. He claimed that she arrived with several suitcases and noted that the Airport Security Police and Customs attempted to conduct an operation, but they were ordered not to inspect the luggage.
Pagni mentioned that, although the veracity of the events had not yet been confirmed, sources in Customs considered the incident to be real and a cause for concern. The journalist raised doubts about who allowed the relaxation of customs controls and what interests might be behind that special treatment.
It was noted that Laura Belén Arrieta participated in the CPAC, a gathering of international conservative right held in Argentina, which would lead to a request for access to public information. In this context, the Government was urged to clarify the situation immediately if it wants to uphold its commitment to transparency.
In summary, the complaint made by Carlos Pagni about the alleged release of controls on Laura Belén Arrieta after her arrival from Miami has raised questions about the transparency and legitimacy of customs procedures in the country.
