Cristina Kirchner Critiques Milei's Economic Policies

Former president Cristina Kirchner harshly criticized the exchange rate policy of President Javier Milei, accusing him of resorting to borrowing from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in a similar manner to how Mauricio Macri did during his term. According to Kirchner, Milei is seeking financing from the IMF due to the lack of dollars and the need to settle debts with the Central Bank.

In an extensive message on social media, Kirchner pointed out that the current government maintains inflation by intervening in financial markets and artificially keeping the official dollar price low. She criticized Milei's strategy of asking for a loan from the IMF and questioned whether it would actually not increase Argentina's external debt.

The former president compared Milei's request for financing to Macri's borrowing policy, recalling that the latter took a loan of 57 billion dollars from the IMF. Kirchner highlighted that during the governments of the Front for Victory, led by Néstor Kirchner, the debt with the IMF was canceled in 2005 without incurring new debt and maintaining a fiscal surplus.

Regarding the conditions that the IMF might impose if the loan is approved, Kirchner raised questions about the exchange rate and concluded her message by reaffirming that during her administration, Argentina was de-leveraged without resorting to mechanisms like those currently being implemented.
