Official Sergio Morales resigned from his position as an advisor on cryptocurrencies at the National Securities Commission (CNV), apparently related to the scandal of the cryptocurrency Libra spread by President Javier Milei. Morales, who had joined the CNV in the second half of last year after a brief stay at the General Secretariat of the Presidency, submitted his resignation in the context of the ongoing investigation regarding his ties with businessmen involved in potential scams related to Libra.
In his resignation letter, Sergio Morales emphasized that he had not committed any crime and that he had always adequately fulfilled his duties as an external advisor to the commission. He also expressed his desire to prevent the media attention surrounding the investigated facts from affecting the reputation of the regulatory body. Before his resignation became known, Morales appeared with his lawyers in the federal courts of Comodoro Py to make himself available to prosecutor Eduardo Taiano, who is in charge of the investigation.
Sergio Morales has been linked to Mauricio Novelli, one of the businessmen associated with the cryptocurrency Libra. Both entered the Casa Rosada on June 11, according to official records of entries and exits from the building located at Balcarce 50, where they met with the sister of President Javier Milei.
