Juan Carlos Maqueda, former Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice, former Deputy of the Nation, and former President Pro Tempore of the Senate, has commented on the recent appointment by decree of judges Ariel Lijo and Manuel GarcĂa-Mansilla, indicating that this procedure is highly exceptional and that in this particular case it has been treated with too much normality.
In an interview with Radio Rivadavia AM 630, Maqueda expressed his concern regarding the decision made by President Javier Milei, highlighting that it was made just three days before the opening of ordinary sessions in the National Congress. This fact, according to Maqueda, deserves reflection, as it constitutes a provocation towards the parliament, especially towards the Upper House.
The former minister of the Supreme Court analyzed the president's speech, noting that it leaves much to be desired from an institutional perspective by disregarding central democratic and republican principles. Although he acknowledges the importance of building a solid economic system, Maqueda emphasized that no economic plan can thrive if it does not operate within the framework of a republican system, which is essential for the Constitution and the Republic.
Maqueda highlighted the need to respect the separation of powers as a crucial element in generating trust in a country, stressing that in the language used by President Milei, this principle seems to have no place. For the former minister, these principles constitute fundamental pillars of the rule of law and are directly related to the concept of Legal Security.
