New electoral schedule in Argentina

After the suspension of the Open, Simultaneous and Compulsory Primaries (PASO), the national electoral schedule for this year was reconfigured. The definitions regarding the new deputies and senators will be known on Sunday, October 26. Before that date, the election calendar starts with trips to the polls in different provinces, starting from next April.

October 26 will be the national electoral test, where 127 deputies and 24 senators will be elected, renewing half of the lower house and a third of the upper house. That day, for the first time across the country, the Unique Paper Ballot (BUP) will be launched, following its approval last year in the National Congress with a large majority.

The schedule in 2025 begins on April 13 in Santa Fe, when the general elections of delegates will take place to reform the provincial Constitution, as well as the PASO for municipal and communal positions. On May 4, it will continue in Salta, where provincial legislators will be defined.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, May 11, there will be a triple trip to the polls, with local elections in Jujuy, Chaco, and San Luis. A week later, on May 18, it will be time for the elections in the City of Buenos Aires, to renew half of the porteño Legislature, which days earlier also decided to suspend the local PASO.

The province of Santa Fe will have elections again on June 29 to define its local legislators. Another province that could elect its legislators on a different date than the national one is Buenos Aires, although at the moment, Governor Axel Kicillof has yet to determine the election day.

Meanwhile, the provinces of Corrientes and Santiago del Estero will elect a governor this year, as they have different calendars from the rest of the districts due to previous interventions.
