Controversy Erupts Over Presidential Appointments in Argentina

Two of the most important labor unions in Argentina, the Workers' CTA and the Autonomous CTA, strongly criticized the recent appointments of Ariel Lijo and Manuel García-Mansilla to the Supreme Court by presidential decree. Hugo Yasky and Hugo Godoy, leaders of these organizations, condemned the attitude of President Javier Milei, whom they accused of constantly attacking the National Constitution and citizens' rights. Additionally, they warned about a supposed authoritarian tendency and concentration of power.

In a joint statement, the two labor unions expressed their rejection of these nominations as violations of the Constitution and a threat to democracy. They emphasized that the challenges received by judges Lijo and García-Mansilla should have raised doubts about their suitability for such significant positions in the Argentine judicial system.

The labor organizations stressed that these appointments not only undermine democracy but also weaken the institutions of the Republic by bypassing the due process of ratification by the Senate. They asserted that these moves aim to guarantee the impunity of Milei and his political circle, amid controversies arising around the cryptogate. The Workers' CTA and the Autonomous CTA called for respect for institutional order and reaffirmed their commitment to defending democratic coexistence in Argentina.
