The National Senate has today approved the suspension of the Primaries, Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory (PASO) elections with 43 votes in favor, 20 against, and six abstentions. During the session, which was marked by the scandal surrounding President Javier Milei, this measure aimed at ending electoral waste and recovering democracy was successfully turned into law.
National Deputy from Mendoza, Facundo Correa Llano, expressed his satisfaction with the approval of the suspension of PASO, emphasizing that this law is fundamental to strengthen the democratic system. Correa Llano pointed out that PASO has never been a mechanism for real participation, but rather a form of manipulation and an unnecessary expense. In this regard, he celebrated the progress towards a more efficient and transparent system with lower costs and greater legitimacy.
Correa Llano expressed his hope that the province of Mendoza would follow the national example and put an end to a system he considers irrational and designed to maintain existing political structures. The combination of the suspension of PASO and the implementation of the Unique Paper Ballot represents, in his opinion, a positive step towards a more agile and effective electoral process.
