Crisis as an Opportunity to Strengthen Institutions

Deputy Karina Banfi from UCR asks the Executive Power for details about President Milei's links to the cryptocurrency Libra, following its recent collapse. Banfi argues that this information is key to institutional transparency and public trust.

Crisis as an Opportunity to Strengthen Institutions

National deputies of the UCR, Karina Banfi and Fabio Quetglas, submitted a public information access request for the Executive Power to detail President Javier Milei's links with the individuals and companies promoting the cryptocurrency Libra, and how the launch of the operation was planned. The speculative venture promoted by the Head of State at the last minute on February 14 imploded within hours with a dramatic collapse in the value of the crypto asset, causing millions in losses for investors worldwide, triggering a flood of legal complaints for alleged fraud and violation of the Public Ethics Law.

"The judicial and parliamentary investigations that may be initiated must be answered by the Executive Power with the essential provision, cooperation, and openness of information," Banfi stated.

In the information request under law 27.275, the radical deputies asked for the mechanism by which $Libra was to allow the financing of private ventures, as initially stated in the prominent post that the President of the Nation made on his X account for 4 hours and that was later deleted. They also requested clarification on what information the President of the Nation received about the project of this cryptocurrency from the businessmen he met with previously.

On the other hand, they requested to indicate with whom the planning was done and how far in advance the promotion of Libra was to be announced on the presidential social media account X. They asked whether the subsequent publication of a video of the President of the Nation was planned according to the public statements of Mr. Haiden Davis.

Meanwhile, they inquired if there is any type of commitment between the President or his advisors and Mr. Davis regarding the fate of nearly 100 million dollars generated from transactions with Libra, which the latter claimed to have under his custody.

"It is important for society to know what questions remain unanswered by the President," concluded Banfi.
