Controversy Surrounds Milei's Anti-Corruption Office

Constitutional lawyer Daniel Sabsay, who is also the director of the postgraduate program in Constitutional Law at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), commented on the creation of the Anti-Corruption Office by President Javier Milei. Sabsay stated that "if the controller is dependent on the controlled, we already know the result." In a radio interview, he expressed that he was critical of the governments of NĂ©stor and Cristina Kirchner in the past, and is now also critical of Milei's administration.

Regarding the incident known as 'cryptogate', where the President shared a link through his social media account to encourage investment in a private project, Sabsay indicated that this shows a misunderstanding of the laws by the president. For Sabsay, Milei's actions could be considered abuse of power and failure to fulfill public official duties, which he mentioned as a serious disregard for the foundations of constitutional law.

Sabsay also criticized Milei's proposal to (re)create the Anti-Corruption Office as a solution to investigate his own team, arguing that since it would depend on the President, the control would be in the hands of the controlled, which, according to the lawyer, would predict a concerning outcome. In this regard, Sabsay concluded that the dependency of the controller on the controlled is a factor that compromises the integrity of any investigation, viewing this situation as truly unsettling.
