Families of Police Officers Demand Better Salaries in La Matanza

Relatives of officers of the Buenos Aires Police mobilized to Bridge 12, in the La Matanza district. During the protest, they demanded higher salaries and denounced the precarious working conditions affecting police officers. The demonstrators requested salaries exceeding 1,600,000 pesos for new graduates, increases in Cores hours (overtime worked by police), and retirements with 100% payments after 25 years of service.

In the mobilization, the relatives of the police also requested two complete sets of work clothing per year, access to free psychological assistance, and the implementation of housing programs for officers, as well as low-interest loans. Another highlighted demand was the reinstatement of officers dismissed for participating in marches, and a review of assignment allocations.

The demonstrators pointed out that the current basic salaries are equivalent to approximately 512 dollars, which translates to about 600,000 pesos according to the current exchange rate of the national currency. The protest was carried out peacefully, without traffic interruptions or incidents. It is worth noting that active-duty police officers cannot join the demonstrations, as they could face sanctions due to the prohibition of union activities within the security forces.
