Workers Protest in Argentina Over Salary Issues

A significant protest by train workers is scheduled for March 1st, coinciding with Railway Day. Union leader Omar Maturano criticizes the government for inadequate salary negotiations and demands accountability from authorities regarding train service disruptions.

The union representing railway machinists in Argentina carried out a 6-hour strike in protest against the lack of a wage agreement. Omar Maturano, leader of La Fraternidad, expressed his discontent with the authorities of Trenes Argentinos for using his name to announce the labor action, condemning this act and accusing the Government of lying.

Maturano pointed out that railway workers had gone more than four years without receiving adequate salary proposals, and that the 2.4% increase offered in December was insufficient given the country's economic situation. He harshly criticized the lack of dialogue from the authorities and called for a solution to the problems affecting workers and retirees.

In a meeting held, it was decided to suspend passenger and freight rail service nationwide on March 1, Railway Day. Maturano urged the CGT to summon leaders to address the sector's demands and left open the possibility of a new strike in February if solutions are not found. The union leader stated that it is time to fight for labor rights without resorting to violence.

The goal of La Fraternidad is to achieve salary improvements and decent working conditions for railway transport workers, highlighting the importance of preserving social peace and dialogue in the country. Maturano reminded that, in Argentina, there are more patriots than all political parties combined and reaffirmed the need to defend the interests of workers.
