National deputies of Union for the Homeland presented bills condemning the recent statements by President Javier Milei, in which he threatened to pursue "leftist sons of bitches" to the last corner of the planet. These speeches have been considered unacceptable and have prompted legislators to act in defense of democratic values.
In the bills presented by deputies Eduardo Valdés, Roxana Monzón, Jorge Antonio Romero, and Blanca Osuna, it was emphasized that Milei's expressions are dangerous, as they incite a departure from the democratic pact that was so hard to maintain. It is worth mentioning that the condemnation bills were backed by more than half of the main opposition block, with the signatures of 47 legislators led by Germán Martínez.
Milei's statements came in the context of a defense of Elon Musk against criticism for a gesture the tycoon made during a far-right rally in Germany. In response to the questions about Musk, the Argentine president responded with a strong rejection and a threat toward those he considers his ideological opponents.
The deputies argued in their bills that Milei's words recall the actions of the military dictatorship in Argentina, which perpetrated crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity during the period 1976-1983. They warn that sexual minorities, people with disabilities, scientists, indigenous peoples, journalists, cultural leaders, and other figures have been targeted by hate speech.
These statements led Milei to face at least two criminal complaints for alleged threats, public intimidation, apology for a crime, discrimination, ideological persecution, and incitement to commit crimes. Various deputies joined the bills presented in condemnation of the president's words.
In this context, legislators warn about the danger of promoting speeches that encourage the persecution of ideological opponents, as this can lead to chaotic and violent situations in everyday life. They emphasize that in a country that has suffered state terrorism, it is unacceptable for a democratically elected president to promote this type of persecutory speech against those who think differently.
