Deputy Santiago Cafiero of the Union for the Homeland (UxP) criticized President Javier Milei's speech at the Davos Forum, expressing his concern about the "insults" made by the president. In this regard, Cafiero emphasized the importance of politics and democratic institutions responding to such statements.
According to the UxP legislator, Milei's comments come in a context of crisis in globalization, liberal democracy, and multilateralism. Cafiero pointed out that while some people are trying to strengthen the principles promoted in forums like Davos, such as environmental protection and LGBTQ+ rights, there is also a view that considers these agendas as minority and distorting the social cohesion.
In his analysis, Santiago Cafiero mentioned that figures like Donald Trump and Elon Musk have adopted positions related to state power that go beyond democratic representation, focusing on influence and a kind of social Darwinism that, in his opinion, the President of Argentina is promoting.
For his part, Milei criticized in Davos what he termed "wokism," a term used by the right to refer to progressivism. In his speech, the Argentine president linked concepts such as feminism, equity, gender ideology, climate change, abortion, and immigration as part of the same justificatory framework for state growth, a position questioned by various political sectors, including Santiago Cafiero.
