President Javier Milei attended the Starlight Inaugural Gala as part of his activities following Donald Trump's inauguration. During the event, he met with the confirmed Secretary of State of the new administration, Marco Rubio. Accompanying the Argentine leader were the Secretary-General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, and the Chancellor, Gerardo Werthein.
In a photograph that emerged from the meeting, Milei and Rubio were seen making the thumbs-up gesture, following the custom of the Argentine Head of State, who during his trip has shared several similar images, even with the director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva. Rubio will take office as Secretary of State this Tuesday, a role similar to that of a foreign minister in Argentina.
Both administrations share positions regarding countries in the region, such as the rejection of the presidential elections that kept Nicolás Maduro in power in Venezuela, as well as opposition to Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua and Miguel Díaz Canel in Cuba. The gala in honor of the U.S. presidential duo was attended by leaders, legislators, and Republican figures from the entertainment industry, including Mike Tyson, among others.
