Pope Francis Highlights the Role of the Virgin Mary

Pope Francis defined the true role of the Virgin Mary in the Catholic Church during the last general audience held in St. Peter's Square. In his intervention, the Pontiff emphasized the importance of the bond between the Holy Spirit and the word of God. He also invited the faithful to reflect on the relationship of the Blessed Virgin with the 12 apostles and her guiding function among the disciples of the Lord.

According to Francis, the Mother of God is an instrument of the Holy Spirit in His work of sanctification, being the daughter and servant of the Heavenly Father, the spouse of the Holy Spirit, and the mother of Jesus Christ. The Supreme Pontiff highlighted Mary's eternally indestructible role in her bond with Jesus and her role before the apostles.

In his sermon, Pope Francis also highlighted the unique connection between the Virgin Mary and the Holy Trinity. The next Catholic celebration of the Virgin Mary will take place on November 21, in commemoration of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple. This day is considered a triple feast that includes Our Lady of Health and the Pro Orantibus Day, honoring contemplative life and prayer.

During this general audience, Francis's words moved the present pilgrims, who were inspired by Mary's example in saying "yes" to God and being a guide for them to also respond affirmatively to His call.
