The employees of Garrahan Hospital are carrying out a strike demanding better salaries, with the aim of safeguarding public health. The measure, initiated by the Association of Professionals and Technicians of Garrahan Hospital (APyT), seeks to increase salaries and defend public health in what they consider a critical situation.
"We are in a situation where our salaries do not cover the cost of the family basket, and this causes young health professionals to leave," said Norma Lezana, general secretary of the APyT. To make their demands visible, the workers suspended public attention, although the hospitalization and emergency sectors remain active. Additionally, they offered free Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) classes as a symbol of the need to "revive" the current working and economic conditions.
The strike will conclude tomorrow at 7 am, coinciding with the request for a salary increase and the defense of public health. Due to the risk of salaries remaining below the basic basket, they announced that the strikes will extend into the next month. If the National Government does not address their demands, a new strike will take place on November 8.
Furthermore, artists, cultural members, and intellectuals have been called to participate in a cultural and social embrace in support of Garrahan Hospital. Norma Lezana clarified, "Public health, public education, pensions, and family incomes are at risk due to the internal erosion of the State." Concerns about the institution's continuity under precarious conditions are evident, reflecting the workers' commitment to ensuring quality care in the hospital.
