Soledad Laciar, the mother of Blas Correas, the 17-year-old who died in 2020 after a police shooting, shared her feelings in an interview. Soledad mentioned that she tries to be the best mother for her three children, mentioning Juan, who is 23 years old, and her two daughters who are 4 and 3 years old. She expressed that she wants to give the best to her children and believes that Blas would want the same.
Soledad reflected on the importance of leaving hate behind and focusing on the present. She highlighted the difficulty of this day, as even though they say time passes, it will always touch a sensitive nerve. She commented that she has learned to live with the pain over the years.
When asked how the rest of the family copes with this pain, Soledad mentioned that Juan, her other son, suffered the most, as they were very close. She expressed that pain accompanies them all, and each one accepts it in their own way.
Soledad revealed that she is not very fond of visiting the cemetery, as she prefers to remember her son Blas in other ways. However, at times she feels the need to go and does so. She shared that on Mother's Day, she likes to remember the special moments with her living children and perform meaningful rituals, such as the breakfast they used to have with Blas.
Finally, Soledad thanked the support of those who accompanied her throughout this journey and acknowledged that only those who have gone through a similar situation can truly understand the pain. She explained that, after four years, she has been able to begin to reconnect with the image of her son in photographs and videos, remembering the 17-year-old Blas she lost.
