Argentina Issues Alert Over Deadly Cocaine

The Ministry of Health of La Pampa has issued a preventive alert for potentially adulterated cocaine. This precaution comes amid several investigations in the province of Neuquén, where two people have died from consuming counterfeit drugs. Neuquén authorities reported on December 16th that they were taking precautions due to the circulation of allegedly adulterated cocaine. They explained that in the last five days, 'two deaths linked to the consumption of this substance have been recorded, and a third person is in the intensive care unit.' Following this, the Ministry of Health of La Pampa echoed the situation and issued the following statement: 'Although no cases have been confirmed in the province to date, the geographical proximity to Neuquén and the severity of the events recorded—including severe poisonings and deaths associated with the consumption of this substance—make it necessary to reinforce prevention and health surveillance measures.' In response, authorities have shared a series of recommendations with the public: Avoid the consumption of illicit substances due to the high risk to health and life. If symptoms such as loss of consciousness, difficulty breathing, convulsions, or cardiac alterations appear, go to the nearest hospital or health center immediately. In emergency situations, contact emergency services at 107. Additionally, among the symptoms mentioned are psychomotor excitement, sleep, cardiovascular events, or even acute liver failure.
