The Ministry of Human Capital reported adopting a series of measures following incidents at the Convivential Home of the Society for the Protection of Children, located in the town of Balcarce, Buenos Aires Province. These measures are linked to complaints of mistreatment, threats, and violence against children staying at the facility.
Through an official statement, the ministry indicated that the National Secretariat of Childhood, Adolescence, and Family intervened within the framework of its legal powers and its role as the rector of the comprehensive rights protection system, as reported by the Argentine News Agency.
In this regard, official communications were sent to both the Provincial Agency for Children of Buenos Aires Province and the Local Service for the Promotion and Protection of Children's Rights of the Balcarce Municipality, requesting detailed and urgent information on the measures taken in response to the reported incidents, the implemented intervention strategies, and the actions carried out concerning the involved children, the convivential home, and the individuals accused.
Likewise, exercising the powers conferred by Law No. 26.061, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the agreements of the Federal Council for Childhood, Adolescence, and Family, institutional monitoring mechanisms were activated. The objective is to verify the adoption of effective measures to guarantee the physical, psychological, and emotional integrity of the children accommodated in the facility.
The Ministry also requested specific information on the operation, supervision, and conditions of the convivential home, as well as on the decisions made or to be made regarding the accused individuals, including possible preventive suspensions, function restrictions, or other relevant administrative measures.
Finally, Human Capital noted that the fulfillment of the obligations assumed by the province is directly linked to the existence of adequate care conditions and the effective guarantee of rights, and warned that the lack of response or sufficient measures could lead to the evaluation of corresponding administrative and institutional actions.
«The Ministry of Human Capital reaffirms its commitment to the comprehensive protection of the rights of children and adolescents and will continue to actively exercise its role of rectorship, monitoring, and follow-up to ensure timely, effective, and proportionate responses to the severity of the facts,» the statement concludes.
