Onda Vaga faces sexual abuse allegations from women

In a series of testimonies collected by various Argentine media, cases of sexual, physical, and psychological abuse by members of the band Onda Vaga were revealed. One of the testimonies mentions: "He became violent, forced me to have sex, pulled my hair, and hurt some parts of my body." These accusations led to the creation of an anonymous profile where several cis and lesbian women reported having suffered abuse in their adolescence by members of the band.

In the manifesto of the website compiled by Teleshow, it is mentioned that the reports arose from situations in which participants felt vulnerable and their subjectivities neglected by members of Onda Vaga. Furthermore, it is noted that the allegations included physical and psychological abuse during sexual relationships, dating, and general encounters.

The group Onda Vaga, formed in 2007 in Argentina and Uruguay, is known for mixing musical genres such as rock, cumbia, and folk. They have had international collaborations and participated in renowned festivals. However, in 2018, they were accused of sexual abuse and harassment by at least 45 women, some of whom were minors. After the controversy, the band distanced itself from Argentina for a time but recently announced a tour in Mexico.

Regarding the allegations, testimonies of sexual and psychological abuse by Onda Vaga members towards followers of the group were revealed, including cases where there was a notable age difference between the victims and the implicated. These accusations led to the cancellation of the band’s events and had a negative impact on their career.

The allegations triggered a series of actions by the women involved, who tried to raise awareness of the abuses suffered in a blog that compiled testimonies. Additionally, it was mentioned that there was pressure from the band’s legal team to withdraw the allegations, which generated more controversy surrounding the case.

It is important to highlight that these allegations are part of a broader context of accusations against musicians in Argentina, such as the case of Cristian Aldana from El Otro Yo, convicted of abusing women, and Santiago Aysine from Salta La Banca, accused of sexual abuse. This issue has led to increased awareness of gender violence in the music industry and a demand for a safe environment for both artists and followers.
