The City of Buenos Aires is known for its parks and forests, such as Palermo and the Ecological Reserve of Costanera Sur, where you can enjoy nature in the middle of the city. However, just a few kilometers from the city center, there are various options to visit during the weekend without straying too far from home.
One such option is to explore the San Vicente Lagoon Natural Reserve, a biodiversity refuge near the City of Buenos Aires that offers the opportunity to enjoy fresh air in the countryside. Located just 52 kilometers to the east, this protected area, created in 2011, spans approximately 180 hectares of wetlands, including the San Vicente Lagoon, La Bellaca Lagoon, and the San Vicente Stream.
The San Vicente Lagoon Natural Reserve has established itself as a sanctuary for biodiversity and a place for recreation and environmental education accessible to those looking to connect with nature without straying too far from the city. Admission is free, and the reserve is open from Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 10 AM to 6 PM.
The reserve features interpretative trails, such as the "Frog Path," which allow visitors to immerse themselves in the local flora and fauna. Recently, 40 eco-bikes have been made available at "Post 3," also known as the Environmental Interpretation Center, for those who wish to explore the reserve sustainably. This center aims to promote environmental education and encourage ecological habits among the community.
On the other hand, the reserve offers facilities for the enjoyment of visitors, including areas with grills, showers, tables, children's games, and parking. With more than 200 registered wildlife species, including over 120 bird species, the San Vicente Lagoon Natural Reserve becomes a privileged site for birdwatching and direct contact with nature.
