Just in the first months of 2025, the fires consumed nearly 95 thousand hectares in the province of Corrientes, generating extreme concern in the region. Bruno Lovinson, coordinator of the Emergency Operations Command, officially announced that there are no active fire hotspots remaining and that the situation is fully controlled. Lovinson attributed this achievement to recent rains and the hard work of firefighters and teams both on land and in the air.
"Although no rainfall has been recorded in the areas of Santo Tomé and San Carlos, ash guards remain in place, but the situation is fully controlled," Lovinson explained. To prevent the emergence of new fires, ash guards will continue in affected areas without precipitation. The National Meteorological Service forecasts several days of storms in the province, scheduled for Saturday the 15th, Monday the 17th, Tuesday the 18th, and Wednesday the 19th of February.
In related news, in recent hours, the Rural Police of Mercedes and the Brigade of Paso de los Libres arrested the alleged person responsible for the fire that affected the localities of Mercedes and Bonpland. The capture of the suspect took place during a raid at his residence, where key elements for the investigation were found, such as a lighter, a cell phone, and a vehicle.
Despite the high temperatures that continue to affect the region, the province of Corrientes no longer has active fire hotspots.
