Approximately 22,131 hectares in the Magdalena Valley of Lanín National Park continue to be affected by fires. Teams from various organizations are working to control the fire and prevent its spread.


Fire in Lanín National Park Affects Large Area

About 22,131 hectares continue to be affected by wildfires in the Magdalena Valley area of Lanín National Park, covering an area nearly equivalent to the surface of the City of Buenos Aires, which is 203.3 km². This represents approximately an additional 8% of the area of the Argentine capital.

The Unified Command between Lanín National Park and the Government of the Province of Neuquén, operating at Estancia Mamuil Malal, reported on the current situation. Predominant westerly winds with intense gusts are forecasted, contributing to the extreme fire behavior. To contain it, a night operation was conducted on Wednesday to prevent the flames from crossing provincial road No. 60.

Additionally, 12 aerial units and drone flights were deployed to monitor the affected region. Various entities and organizations are participating in the control operation, such as the Government of Neuquén, the provincial Ministry of Security, the Emergency and Risk Management Secretariat, the Provincial Fire Management System, Provincial Highway Administration, among others. Volunteer Firefighters, the National Army, Gendarmerie, the Neuquén Police, civil protection, local municipalities, ranchers, and communities are also involved.
