Active Fires in Corrientes: Over 20,000 Hectares Affected

In the province of Corrientes, specifically in the towns of La Cruz, Estación Solari, and Mantilla, various wildfires are currently active. Volunteer firefighter teams, firefighters, and aircraft are working hard in the affected rural areas.

The Emergency Operational Command of Corrientes is coordinating the efforts, which include the participation of two water-dumping planes, volunteer firefighters, and special fire brigades. According to Bruno Lovinson, the Emergency Command coordinator, more than 20,000 hectares have already been affected by these incidents.

In Mantilla, the fire started in a eucalyptus plantation last Wednesday. Different firefighting units from towns such as 9 de Julio, Chavarría, Bella Vista, and Santa Rosa are collaborating in the extinguishing efforts.

Unfortunately, in Estación Solari, the first fatality was reported, Cindia Alejandra Mendoza, a 30-year-old school director, who lost her life fighting the flames near her father's home, which was threatened by the fire.

A call is made to the population to take extreme precautionary measures and refrain from burning grass or garbage. In addition to the mentioned planes, firefighters, and brigadistas, the police, the Ministry of Health - supporting the emergency teams - and entities such as provincial road services and the municipalities of Mercedes and Curuzú Cuatiá are involved in the area.

In La Cruz, specifically in the area of the Tres Cerros, a forest fire is affecting a pine plantation. This non-native species contributes to the rapid spread of the fire. Volunteer firefighters, along with a helicopter from the National Fire Management System, are working to contain the flames. The active hotspots are mostly situated in rural areas, with two of them recently deactivated in Gobernador Martínez and Perugorría, although more than 20,000 hectares have already been consumed by the fire.
