The Ministry of Health and Public Health has dismissed 1,400 employees, contributing to a dismantling process that jeopardizes care for diseases such as HIV, Tuberculosis, and Viral Hepatitis. These departments were responsible for acquiring, distributing medications, planning prevention actions, and conducting studies on vulnerable populations to design intervention strategies; their elimination leaves the Ministry incapable of responding to these diseases.
In a statement, workers expressed their concern over the impact of these layoffs on public health and accused the government of committing genocide by defunding and dismantling the healthcare system. They pointed out that Law 27.675 establishes the responsibility of the National State to ensure the provision of medications and supplies to the entire population.
In light of this situation, protests have taken place at the Ministry of Health, where workers and unions have demanded compliance with the law and the defense of jobs. The dismissal of 40% of the staff from the HIV, Hepatitis, and Tuberculosis response department has generated outrage and concern within the community, which sees the care for these diseases at risk. Workers have called for the unification of the struggle to protect the health and lives of those affected by these diseases.
