Police Checks for School Start in Buenos Aires

The start of the school year in the province of Buenos Aires will be accompanied by police checks as part of a special prevention operation. This operation is timed to coincide with the «Last First Day» — a season of celebrations that is often marred by excesses. The operation by the Buenos Aires Provincial Police will begin at midnight this Friday, March 6, and will continue until classes start in each district. The official communication stated that the measure was ordered by a service directive from the Police Planning and Operations Superintendency. It provides for an increased police presence from midnight to early morning throughout the province, with the involvement of Regional Security Superintendencies and various police departments. Official sources reported that «a joint effort with education and health professionals was organized to address the issue in a decentralized manner in each municipality. It was also required to «not leave young people alone». In extreme situations, it was requested that the intoxicated person be «placed on their side to prevent the risk of aspiration», «offered water and kept warm», and «given information about the physical and social consequences of alcohol».
