In Argentina, the beloved Gol Trend ceased to be available in the market at the end of 2021, which has generated expectations about its successor. Volkswagen introduced the Volkswagen Tera, a low-cost model expected to arrive in the country next year. The Tera, a cousin of the Skoda Kylaq, has been spotted testing on the famous Route 40.
The Volkswagen Tera, still in the adjustment and calibration phase, is expected to be manufactured at the plant that the brand has in Taboaté, Brazil. Originally known as Project SUV A0, the Tera does not aim to directly replace the Gol Trend but to position itself between the Polo Track and the T-Cross in terms of pricing.
With dimensions more compact than the T-Cross and the Nivus, the Tera is expected to compete with models from other brands like the Fiat Pulse and the Renault Kardian in the segment. It is rumored that the Tera will be about 4.10 meters long, 1.78 meters wide, and 1.62 meters high, with a trunk capacity of 446 liters, similar to that of the Skoda Kylaq.
The Volkswagen Tera will be based on the MQB-A0 platform and will feature a 1.0 turbo gasoline engine. It is expected to have versions with manual and automatic transmissions, with front-wheel drive in both cases. According to the General Manager of VW Argentina, Martín Massimino, the Tera will be positioned between the Polo Track and the more accessible versions of the T-Cross in terms of pricing, which would range between 27 and 31 million pesos, depending on the model.
