In December, tourist arrivals in Argentina fell by 7.9%, while the departure of nationals from the country increased by 1.7%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC). During the last month of the year, 887,800 non-residents entered the country through all access routes. 48.4% of tourists arrived in Argentina by air, 37.3% by land, and the remaining 14.3% by river/sea. Regarding outbound travel, the total for December was 1,277,700: 705,100 were tourists and 572,600 were excursionists. According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), 77% of outbound tourism was directed to neighboring countries: Brazil 24.7%, Chile 21.3%. 45.7% of resident tourists left the country by land, 41.8% by air, and 12.5% by river/sea. Thus, the last month of the year closed with a negative balance of 389,900 international visitors. This was a result of negative balances of 169,300 tourists and 220,600 excursionists. Annual figures show that in 2025, 8,775,600 people visited the country, of which 5,315,900 were tourists and 3,459,700 were excursionists. This represents a 19.7% decrease compared to the 10,927,600 who arrived in Argentina in 2024. As for the departure of Argentines, 18,839,900 left the country during the year: 11,896,300 were tourists and 6,942,600 were excursionists. Compared to 2024, outbound travel increased by 38.6%. Taking both indicators into account, for every foreigner who entered the country, two Argentines went abroad. The total expenditure on inbound tourism was US$3,110 million, while for outbound tourism it was US$7,164.2 million. This resulted in a negative balance of US$4,054.2 million, indicating that less money entered Argentina than Argentines spent abroad. Gastronomy accounted for the largest share of spending by non-resident tourists, at 31.2%. This was followed by: Accommodation 22.4%, Shopping 13.5%, Tourist packages 10.8%, Transportation 9.7%, Domestic flights 3.8%, Excursions 3.1%, Other expenses 5.5%.
