In the province of Chaco, a 42-year-old man was discovered trying to smuggle 200 packages of cigarettes disguised as water hyacinth during the night of Sunday on Isla del Cerrito, near the Paraguayan coast. The police of the Argentine Naval Prefecture found the individual trying to enter the cargo from Paraguay by water.
According to local sources, the prefecture agents prioritized the man's safety, who was rescued from the water, treated, and transported in good health. A video captured the moment when the smuggler emerged from his disguise and was helped onto a boat to be detained. Inside the water hyacinth suit, boxes of illegal cigarettes were discovered, protected by black plastic.
Investigations revealed that the smuggler was trying to introduce 200 cartons of cigarettes into the country without customs approval, with a market value of over two million pesos.
