The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, participated in the Plenary of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) in Washington, where global economic prospects and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Global Policy Agenda were discussed. According to a statement from the Ministry of Treasury, Caputo highlighted that, despite a stabilization of the global economy, the review of fiscal situations in several countries remains a significant risk.
Regarding the Fund's agenda, Caputo emphasized the importance of adjusting policies for a swift and effective response to current needs. He celebrated the review of charge and surcharge policies, considering it a positive development for Argentina. During the event, the minister signed the Amendment Protocol to the Agreement to Avoid Double Taxation between both countries with his counterpart from Luxembourg, aiming to align this treaty with Argentina's tax policy.
Additionally, Caputo highlighted the existing expectations regarding the World Bank's strategy for middle-income countries, which is expected to contribute to sustainable growth. In relation to the internal situation, he mentioned the reduction of inflation in Argentina, attributing it to measures to address fiscal deficit and expand social protection programs, along with structural reforms that favor investments and invigorate the economy.
The minister underscored the importance of the World Bank in consolidating reforms and assured that the high cost of loans represents an obstacle to economic development. Therefore, he valued the adjustments in the IBRD's pricing structure and advocated for ongoing discussions among countries to maintain accessible loan costs and ensure sustainable economic development.
