Suspension of Wage Negotiations Affects Domestic Workers

Wage negotiations for domestic workers are complicated due to the lack of a Deputy Minister of Labor. A salary increase is expected, but the situation is uncertain.

Suspension of Wage Negotiations Affects Domestic Workers

The government denied information about a possible 6% increase offer in the collective bargaining for domestic workers, while unions demanded a 12%. In response, the union leader expressed her rejection of accepting this proposal, considering it a mockery.

Moreover, the vacancy in the Undersecretariat of Labor has created uncertainty in the collective bargaining negotiations. The resignation of Martín Huidobro, who took office in May, has postponed discussions about salary increases for domestic workers. This has led to a pause in negotiations while awaiting who will occupy this position in the Ministry of Human Capital.

The head of the domestic workers' union of Río Negro and Neuquén mentioned existing concerns due to the lack of progress in salary updates agreed upon until August, compared to the level of accumulated inflation during the same period.

Huidobro's departure has generated speculation about his replacement, suggesting that a leader close to the PRO, Horacio Pitrau, could take the position. The situation has caused delays in negotiations and concern among workers in the sector.

For its part, the Ministry of Human Capital reported that Huidobro's dismissal is linked to a reorganization process in the portfolio, assuring that the matter will continue to be addressed in the coming weeks as part of a general restructuring of the Ministry.
