The president and CEO of YPF, Horacio Marín, announced that construction of the Vaca Muerta Sur project will begin in January, which will represent an investment of 2.5 billion dollars. It is expected that by December 2026, this project will have a transportation capacity of 360 thousand barrels per day, making Argentina one of the main exporters in the region and providing foreign currency and jobs to the country.
This project is considered strategic for the sector and the country, as it will allow an increase in unconventional oil production. Marín pointed out that the development of Vaca Muerta gas is crucial, stating that if achieved, "the largest gas pipeline in Argentina" will be built.
On the other hand, the Argentina LNG project, which is the largest in the country, will position Argentina as the fifth largest gas exporter in the world, supplying several countries. It is expected to have a significant impact on Argentina's energy export platform, generating a change in the country's productive matrix.
Additionally, Marín mentioned that in November the project will be discussed in the Board of Directors and the procedures will begin to adhere it to the Regime of Incentives for Large Investments (RIGI), with the start of construction planned for January 2025.
The president of YPF highlighted global interest in the Argentina LNG project and mentioned that there are already 5 companies committed to the construction of the second section of Vaca Muerta Sur. During the inauguration of Oil & Gas 2024 in Neuquén, Marín expressed his satisfaction in working on a project of such magnitude, emphasizing the importance of LNG development for the country.
