Labor Challenges for Young People in Argentina

According to a study conducted by Junior Achievement Americas and ManpowerGroup in 14 countries in Latin America, nine out of ten young Argentinians have difficulties finding employment. According to the research, 70% of the surveyed youth believe that lack of experience is the main barrier to entering the labor market.

In Argentina, 72% of young people cite lack of experience as the primary impediment to accessing formal employment, followed by incompatible work schedules (48%) and a shortage of opportunities in areas of interest (43%). Luis Guastini, General Director and President of ManpowerGroup Argentina, emphasizes the need for collaboration to reduce these gaps and promote opportunities that align with the expectations and aspirations of young people.

When choosing a job, young Argentinians prioritize a competitive salary and professional growth. The most commonly used tools for job searching are social media, followed by family and friends' contacts, and direct searches on company websites.

Regarding areas of job interest, sales and customer service are the most prominent among young people (43%), followed by Marketing and Advertising, and Information Technologies (both at 18%). Companies, for their part, identify lack of experience and soft skills, as well as high salary expectations and benefits, as the main difficulties in hiring young people.

Despite the challenges of finding and retaining young talent, some Argentine companies note low turnover among young workers. The study highlights the importance of preparing young people to face the challenges of the constantly evolving labor market, as well as creating educational experiences that promote the development of key competencies from an early age.
