The National Government announced that it will review all existing contracts in the telecommunications sector to analyze their compliance. Meanwhile, the National Commission for the Defense of Competition will initiate investigations to detect possible anticompetitive behavior in the industry. Among the proposed measures, the use of spectrum bands for the deployment of 5G service is highlighted, with the aim of promoting investments that improve telecommunications and correct the privileges of public companies.
In the fiscal area, VAT exemptions for newspapers, magazines, and periodical publications will be eliminated, both in their printed and digital editions. In a conference held at the Casa Rosada, presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni detailed that these actions aim to expand competition in the telecommunications sector and modify the tax regime for periodical publications.
Adorni stated that measures will be implemented to promote greater competition among companies in the sector, with the goal of improving service and reducing prices. He also announced that 100 MHz of spectrum reserved for ARSAT for mobile communications will be made available, along with another 50 MHz currently in the hands of ENACOM. A resolution that required the inclusion of certain informative signals in the grid of cable television operators will also be repealed.
He emphasized that the speed of 5G, measured in Mbps, is significantly higher than that of 4G, offering benefits such as faster file downloads. Adorni revealed that after an audit, it was found that companies like Telecom and Telefónica owed more than 3 billion pesos in investment contributions, which will lead to a modification in VAT taxation for these activities.
Regarding connectivity in schools, it is planned to relaunch the contract to provide connections in 16,000 educational establishments, with an estimated annual value of 60 billion pesos. Adorni concluded the conference by promising to work on deregulation, market opening, and correcting distortions in the provision of services.
The implementation process of 5G in Argentina, a more advanced mobile internet connection technology, requires the installation of new antennas and strategic planning by companies in the sector. This will allow for significant improvements in latency and connection quality, providing a faster and more stable experience for users.
